It’s no secret that Hendricks and Pekkanen know how to entertain. This is their third book as a writing team and once again we get a fast paced, twisty ride.

Shay is a bit at rock bottom at the moment. She’s getting kicked out of her apartment, she’s in between jobs, doesn’t have much friends and just witnessed a suicide by subway. (As a New Yorker, I hope I never ever have to witness this – but I am scared of being pushed in front of one – eep!) As she somehow finds a kinship with the deceased, Amanda, her actions catch the eyes of Amanda’s friends and puts her in a situation she could have never seen coming.

Now, while I did find this read entertaining in true Pekkanen and Hendricks style, this one missed the mark just a bit for me. A thousand coincidences looked over by a protagonist who is into statistics and numbers? Erm….. does not computer. Regardless, this is still a fun read. Suspend some reality, be careful who you befriend and never ever believe that coincidences are just coincidences.

I loved and devoured this book. I went in as blind as possible. Often times the less I know about a book the better. I loved an Anonymous Girl so this was one of my most anticipated books of 2020. I loved the short alternating chapters. I commiserated with the main character and her longing to belong. I loved the ending and didn’t see it coming. Highly recommend especially if you loved their previous books. These two have a fantastic way with words.

Shay Miller is so lonely – her love for her flat mate is unrequited and she has no social circle to speak of. Knocked for six after witnessing a suicide, she meets Cassandra and Jane and life soon seems filled with promise, but is everything as it seems?

I enjoyed this book and was not expecting the final twist which looped it all together, bringing the ‘aha’ moment, so much so that I actually backtracked through several chapters in an effort to find out what signs I may have missed! I really grew to like the character Shay and her data obsession, the opening facts highlighted at the start of each chapter providing some relevance both to the story itself and us as readers. I did find this initially a bit of a slow burn but it soon picked up pace and I found myself snatching any time that I could to get another chapter read – the shorter chapters that Greer & Sarah favor in their novels definitely induce that ‘just one more’ feeling.

I’d definitely recommend adding this to your TBR pile. I was a huge fan of The Wife Between Us and An Anonymous Girl and these guys have put out yet another winner.
