Book Summary

Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening her husband Gabriel returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face, and then never speaks another word.

Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety. The price of her art skyrockets, and she, the silent patient, is hidden away from the tabloids and spotlight at the Grove, a secure forensic unit in North London.

Theo Faber is a criminal psychotherapist who has waited a long time for the opportunity to work with Alicia. His determination to get her to talk and unravel the mystery of why she shot her husband takes him down a twisting path into his own motivations—a search for the truth that threatens to consume him….

I’m genuinely disappointed with this book. My expectations were set so high for it and especially as a hyped-up book.

Alicia was supposed to be the main character based on the synopsis, however, I feel like she was more of a side character to keep the story going. It was more about Theo’s issues/life and relationship. We only get to know Alicia through her diary which is not a lot.

Some things were really unnecessary to mention like how ugly, bossy, or overweight someone is from Theo’s perspective. He’s like always judging people inside his head.

I also feel like all the women in this book were portrayed to be weak and nothing they could be seen as decent.

The only interesting parts for me were reading Alicia’s diary and the chapter where the “twist” happened. I must admit before the supposed twist, I figured where it was headed and ended up being right.

Nonetheless, that chapter was interesting. At the same time, that’s when I noticed the book was told in a dual timeline which you would have never guess. It was confusing.

The story has a great plot, I must give it that. We go into this book to find out what really happened. So that only will keep anyone who decides to read this book invested in it.

I really hated the ending like what was that? If you do read it you’ll see what I’m talking about.
Even though it was not a book for me. Maybe you might like it as we each have different tastes.

I have noticed people either love or hate this one. But I absolutely adored it and I can not wait until his next one comes out. I read this in one sitting on a cold sunday day and just was absolutely glued to it. I hope you decide to read this one and that you love it as well!

I’ve heard mixed reviews on the Silent Patient and even though I had it on my TBR, I wasn’t in a rush to read it. That was until one of my friends said it was one of the best books she has read. Of course that peaked my interest. I finally read it and loved it!⁣⁣⁣
The Silent Patient is about a woman named Alicia who is happily married to Gabriel yet she kills him and never speaks again. The story is narrated by Theo, the psychotherapist who ends up working with Alicia. He is determined to find out why she killed her husband but more so, why she won’t speak anymore, even after years have past.⁣⁣⁣
I had a few guesses and theories as to why or even if she really killed her husband but I was wrong! This was an amazing book and easily in my top 5 for thrillers!
