Book Summary

Welcome to the neighborhood. Watch your husband, watch your friends, and watch your back.

Cat Winthorpe has worked hard to get what she has: a gorgeous home; social standing; and William, her successful, handsome husband. Then a friendly new couple moves into the estate next door. While cautious, a good neighbor like Cat greets them with open arms and warm hospitality.

Neena Ryder isn’t a fellow lady of leisure. A life coach with off-the-rack dresses, personal issues, and a husband who hasn’t delivered, she’s anxious to move up in the world. This beautiful new town is a step in the right direction. It’s also making Neena aware of what she doesn’t have. Namely, William. When Neena’s infatuation escalates into obsession, it’s just a matter of eliminating a few obstacles to get the life she wants. The life next door.

As Neena’s secret fixation grows, so does her friendship with Cat. But beneath their cordial interactions is a wealth of temptations, secrets, and toxic jealousy. For both women, the desire for a perfect life can turn perfectly dangerous.

This is the first book I have read from this author. I like the cover.

So in this book we follow two characters. Cat Winthorpe has worked hard to get what she has; social standing and William her successful and handsome husband. Neena Ryder isn’t a fellow lady of leisure.

I thought this was a solid thriller. The author did a wonderful job of writing a story combining jealousy with doing anything to obtain whatever you want at all costs. The pacing of the book kept me invested from start to finish. Both Cat and Neena were relatable characters, which made the book feel more realistic. I would definitely recommend this book to thriller readers who like reading a book filled with jealousy, and the desire to get what you want no matter what.

I think this is another good one to go in blind. But in a nutshell, the two main characters are wealthy next door neighbors so expect the typical lifetime movie drama. I was spoiled with the main twist before going into it so I had a pretty good idea what was going on, but the book still had other questions that I couldn’t wait to be answered.

Avoid reviews and just read this one if you like domestic thrillers set in gorgeous locations with wealthy naughty characters.

“Don’t Be A, followed by a photo of a rooster and a lollipop.” Readers, I humbly admit that it took me way longer than it should have and a few re-reads of this sentence to finally get it. *facepalm*

I have had this author’s Deanna Madden series for AGES and have been meaning to get to them. Color me surprised when I snagged this one and *lightbulb* it’s the same author! Once I started this read, I had a very hard time putting it down. Cat, meet mouse. Oh, ha! Unintentional word play since one of the protagonists is named Cat. So, Cat… meet Neena.

You’d think with all the thrillers I read, that while this is nothing new to what I’ve read before, that I would get tired of these kinds of reads. But here’s the thing… Torre writes in such a way that you are just magnetically pulled right into the story. Rich, poor, married, single, happy, unhappy, employed or not – each of these characters, while some detestful (as all thrillers have), are all very relatable.

This willful volley was an absolute delight to absorb. And when certain things came to light, I couldn’t help but get a smarmy smile on my face and inwardly clap. People be crazy… and that’s why I LOVE this genre. I need to get to that series that has been on my forever TBR. I can already tell I’ll be addicted to those as well.

⏶*cocksucker, if you didn’t figure that out already 😉

If you need an entertaining read to plow through, absolutely pick this one up. And women, stop fighting over a man not worthy… though maybe it’s not always about the man himself, eh?

This story is a tit for tat that makes you hold your breath in anticipation. It’s an escalating chess match, with exponential stakes.
    .
Cat has worked hard to reach the top of the social ladder. She has a lavish home and lifestyle, a handsome, successful husband and is the envy of everyone in her posh town.
    .
When Neena moves in next door, Cat is immediately mistrustful. Neena begins inventing reasons to spend time with Cat’s husband, William and persistently inserts herself into their lives. It becomes glaringly obvious that Neena wants what Cat has. Cat does not plan to take this lying down.
    .
As the infatuation grows, the relationships become toxic, detrimental and spiral out of control
    .
Neither woman can be underestimated… who will win this dangerous game?
