Book Summary

Blake’s dead. They say his wife killed him. If so… which one?

Polygamist Blake Nelson built a homestead on a hidden stretch of land—a raw paradise in the wilds of Utah—where he lived with his three wives:

Rachel, the first wife, obedient and doting to a fault, with a past she’d prefer to keep quiet.
Tina, the rebel wife, everything Rachel isn’t, straight from rehab and the Vegas strip.
And Emily, the young wife, naïve and scared, estranged from her Catholic family.

The only thing that they had in common was Blake. Until all three are accused of his murder.

When Blake is found dead under the desert sun, all three wives become suspect—not only to the police, but to each other. As the investigation draws them closer, each wife must decide who can be trusted. With stories surfacing of a notorious cult tucked away in the hills, whispers flying about a fourth wife, and evidence that can’t quite explain what had been keeping Blake busy, the three widows face a reckoning that might shatter all they know to be true.

This is the first book I have read from this author. Thank you Olivia @thrillerbooklover for my #gifted copy. I love the cover as it is very dark.

So in this book we follow Polygamist Blake Nelson who built a homestead on a hidden stretch of land. A raw paradise in the wilds of Utah, where he lived with his three wives.

Overall I thought this book was a solid psychological thriller. I enjoyed reading this book. The author definitely led me on a fun trip from start to finish. Her use of certain subtle details kept me on the edge of my seat while reading. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants a good domestic psychological Thriller.

Three wives. One dead husband. 😈 They all have reason to kill him, so who was it?
This story starts off STRONG. Quinn introduces us to Rachel, Tina and Emily – all very different women who ended up wives of Blake. As we learn about them, their relationship with Blake and the mystery at hand, I am absolutely riveted to the pages. Oh, hello cult vibes…. I welcome thee…. and then… then something got lost. Towards the middle I started losing a bit of interest going back and forth with the wives, their pasts, etc. … I’m not even quite sure I’d say it’s repetitive, but I felt some of it was just a bit too much filler.

But then! THEN it goes seven sheets to sideways, which definitely got my attention again. Ok, I can see it’s gonna get nuts so gonna strap myself in and prepare. Had me hooked again, I didn’t even mind the whiplash. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite like the last twist. For my particular taste, I think it was a bit of a reach after all the build up. I did enjoy getting to see how everything played out at the end. Certain characters (and I despised them all lovingly) definitely deserved for a happier way of life… but the mighty tangled web that was woven got untangled a bit too fast.

Look, this book has everything I enjoy – give me any kind of culty vibes and I am HERE for it. Multi-layered characters, gimme. Shitty husband who’s dead from the get go – sign me up! Quinn served up all the red herrings and I stayed to fish. I very much enjoy Quinn’s writing style and kudos to a bad ass debut novel. I’ll absolutely be picking up whatever this author serves up next.

I recently finished Black Widows. This book was such a fun fast paced read.
Blake is a member of Latter Day Saints, but a cast off. He is a polygamist with three wives. He is found dead in the desert, and the police look to his wives as the killer, but the question is which one?

This is told from the 3 wives perspectives, and made a really fun buddy read. The chapters are short and there was tons of theories that can be discussed. The story was different and it definitely kept my attention. If you’re looking for an interesting and unique read definitely give this one a shot!

A man has just been found murdered. He has three wives. The police are convinced one of his wives murdered him, but they aren’t sure which one.

    .
There are a lot of nauseating and appalling parts to this book, as you would expect with a story involving cults and plural marriage.
    .
This was a good story with a lot of components that I really enjoyed. I just thought it was too long. I feel like it could have been trimmed down by about 100 pages.
